Spring Christmas Mini Sessions

Announcing Spring mini sessions! OCTOBER 9th & 10TH 2010*

Why have your family portraits taken in Spring? Well firstly because it’s NOT winter anymore! Yay! Secondly, because it’s not yet Summer so the jeans and sleeves you prefer to wear won’t make you sweat and you don’t have to worry about whether your legs are tanned enough or your arms are toned enough! And thirdly, it’s nearly Christmas! Oh yes it is! At the very least, October is the perfect time to have portraits made if you want an annual session to capture how your family has changed in a year – and if you have distant family who would love to see too. With that in mind, why not pop your gorgeous family on a customised Christmas card?

Which brings me to the mammoth list of things you will get for a teensy-tiny $295!

* a 30 – 45 minute photo shoot

* 5 high resolution images on CD to print unlimited copied from (can make enlargements and canvases up to 30″x40″!! That’s HUGE!) You will be given a gallery of 8-10 fully edited and polished images to choose from.

* Web-sized files of your purchased images, ideal for emailing and Facebook and any other online sharing. Cos let’s face it, if you are reading this, you are using a computer and you might be one of the majority who share their lives with friends and family over the magical internet. So files made specifically for this purpose are handy!

* 5×7 prints of each image purchased to serve as a reference for when you have your own prints made. (“Honey, were you a little purple in the face the day we had our photos done? No? Let me look at the reference print before I head back to the printer to show them their error!”)

* Especially for this offer – A custom Christmas card ON CD. You will get a file to make photo cards (a 6×4 print with your design on it) AND a file containing the design for a press printed folding card! You can choose which to get and if y0u require it assistance, you can have your press printed card design uploaded to Domayne PhotoStation online where you simply decide the size and quantity of cards you’d like and order them yourself.

Here are the designs I have on offer for this Christmas – so pretty…you know you want one!

* If there is enough demand, I will also open Saturday October 16th for more sessions.

** Location yet to be confirmed

Gold Coast Newborn Photographer

I am so happy to finally share the ‘real’ version of the photo featured in my last post and the storyboard that goes with it. These photos were taken as a gift for the girls’ Nanna and I couldn’t share until they had been given to her!

This storyboard would make a gorgeous Mother’s Day Gift, don’t you think?? Check back soon for details of how you can get one of these for yourself! I personally had this made into an Artmount and will be offering a Mother’s Day special so you can have the same! Well, of your own kids, of course!

I am often asked why I don’t hand over all the photos I take in a session… there are lots of reasons, but mostly, it’s because I figure you didn’t really need to see one like this!

October 15th is International Baby Loss Day.  It is a day intended not only to remember those sweet angels who didn’t make it home with their Mummies and Daddies, but to raise awareness of the issues that lead to such tragedies and ways to stop these deaths.

No parent should have to bury a child.

It is not the natural order of life

And yet, it happens. Far more often than you realise.

Scroll down the page here and see all the gorgeous babies I have been lucky enough to photograph.  Such hope, promise and joy in each little face and in the faces of their parents. But there are photos I don’t blog. I am fortunate enough to have been accepted as a photographer for the ACOCP, an organisation that exists to immortalise in images, the few moments these families have together as whole families. I have taken photos of little angels on the verge of getting their wings, and although I don’t blog about those kids, they are the very reason I became a photographer in the first place.

There are many organisations who have interests in International Baby Loss Day. My interest is specifically in making the Australian public aware of the Australian Community of Child Photographers. We provide professional portraits to families struck by the tragdey of having a stillborn baby, a baby who is likely to pass away shortly after birth or a child who is terminally ill. The photographers who work for this organisation provide everything free of charge. They go into hospitals and homes with no other motivation than to provide some tiny measure of comfort to families who have been utterly shattered.

As photographers, we have an interest in preserving moments in history that can never be revisited. That’s why we take every last image. Imagine though, that the photos I take of you with your child are the first, the last and the only ones you’ll ever have. No fuzzy snapshots taken with the knowledge that you can get a clearer shot tomorrow. Just a few shots, hopefully clear enough to trace the line of a tiny ear, the curve of a little upturned nose – forever.  Can you really imagine having no more than that – ever? Or worse, not even having that small consolation?

What can you do to make sure I and all the others professional photographers of ACOCP can provide this service? First of all, tell people! Explain it to them the way I have explained it to you. SO many people find the idea of photographing a dying or passed child morbid or garish or even wrong. But I think I have explained how that is simply not the case. So let people know that we are out there and cost nothing for the grieving family. And secondly, if you can, make a donation to the ACOCP to keep it ticking along, reaching out to hospitals, printing out information for the public and running awareness campaigns.

Lastly, I would like to share a photo of a little man who changed lives in just a matter of days. These photos were taken by his mum and hospital staff and enhanced by myself. ACOCP didn’t exist when Zak was born and so fuzzy snapshots are all his parents have to remember and very importantly, share with others. Others will try to figure out how to avoid the tragedies occurring but ACOCP want to continue to be there for the tragedies that couldn’t be stopped. And I will continue to think of this little guy with every sweet bub I photograph in a NICU or maternity ward. Thanks for reading and please – spread the word.Zak 069

From time to time I am so blown away by a photographer that I feel like I need to do the world a favour by shouting from the rooftops about their awesomeness!!

ANNA B of annab photography is without doubt one of the most talented maternity and newborn photographers in the country. Her work is simple and beautiful. It looks wonderful blown up BIG and printed on canvas. And she has the knack…she is a baby whisperer for sure!! I really do think that you southerners are so lucky to have her right there in Melbourne ready and waiting to capture the final moments of your pregnancy and the first magical moments of your baby’s life and your new family.

Now, go have a look at her blog and website. And then do your friends a really big favour and tell them to go look too! Right now she is running a special and you (or your Victorian friends and family) would be CRAZY to miss it. Really, just nuts. And with her kind permission, here is a sample of her work:

Disclaimer: I have been lucky enough to have Anna mentor me in my own newborn photography so I do know her – but that makes not a jot of difference to how incredible she is!!

I just wanted to get on here and let my clients know that my kids and I have all been knocked on our behinds by a couple of nasty bugs over the last few days. The kids are better now and I am getting there so I wanted to touch base with everyone to let them know their galleries are coming but I am running a little behind on them! I hope to be back up to date by the end of the week and I apologise wholeheartedly for this delay!

I am also hoping to get some sessions blogged this week too…stayed tuned :)
