Last Day of the Summer

January 27, 2008

School starts tomorrow. E will be starting Year 3 and S will be starting Prep. It will be her first time at big school. Five days a week, school uniform – the whole works! So we went to the beach one more time to farewell the looooong summer holidays!

Catherine, no probs with the link ;)

Rosepetal, Canon announced the successor to the 400D this week. It is the 450D. It has some really good new features such as spot metering and higher megapixels. I’m not sure about the price point but I understand it isn’t too far different from the next-level-up 40D. I like my camera a lot and it will be enough to take me to the next level. It comes highly recommended as a starter model. I have my eye on the 5D or its successor some time next year. It’s a lot dearer but a lot better :-D

Basilbean, thanks for visiting:)

OK, so I have been practicing madly and reading everything I can get my hands on for a couple of months. I have joined message boards and connected with a lot of people trying to do just what I am trying to do. It’s been fantastic! My aim is to post new photos once or twice a week. My biggest challenge right now is getting my post processing skills consistent and waaay better (what – you thought photos just came out of the camera like that?)

Two weeks ago I started workshopping with some girls over on the MommyGossip photography message board. There are a mix of beginners, hobbyists, advanced amateurs and professionals there who are happy to critique and advise us newbies and provide feedback on what styles work and don’t. I will start by posting images taken since I started workshopping. Here goes…

Working on exposure. Beach shots are not a good way to hone your basic skills :)

Working on focus in these two.
