I photograph newborns through to kids, teens and families and each of these shoots work slightly differently and will be customised to exactly what you need. The number of people, the ages of the participants will all be taken into consideration.
In general, shoots will last 1-2 hours although newborns will be more towards 2-4 hours.
Full sessions, with exception of newborns also offer the option of more than one location for your photos to be taken. We will make decisions on this in the consultation process prior to your shoot.
Because your images are processed one by one, by hand, the time between your session and your gallery being ready is about 3 weeks.
You will receive a gallery of approximately 25 images, each polished to perfection. Every image will be worthy of display in your home.
While our goal is to get natural and relaxed looking photos, it's also important that everyone looks their best.
Styling is so important to producing cohesive and visually pleasing portraits. We want the eye to relax and not have the moments, the expressions and the faces secondary to discordant colours and elements.
Basically, I want you all to blend together without matching. At all costs, I want your family to avoid looking like a footy team!
In your choices for your family, feel free to include visual textures (patterns, not logos or picture-shirts), textures such as wool, leather or denim as well as accessories like hats, scarves and neck ties. If you are worried about a colour palette, I always recommend a trip to Pumpkin Patch where in any given line they will use several different colours of which there are always colours suitable for mum and dad to wear.
As a rule, more tailored cuts and non stretchy fabrics photograph better and look more flattering.
Most of all, once you are all dressed, you still need to feel comfy, and the confidence that you are dressed to look great at your shoot will let you feel that way.
I'm Jillian and I'll be taking your photos. But they won't be just snapshots, they'll be captivating images that could be described as Art. Art featuring YOU.
If you are after cheesy mugshots reminiscent of your childhood studio pictures, I might not be the girl for you. If you want to remember not just how you all looked but how you all loved each other, smiled that special way when you looked at each other: if you want to remember the moments that made your heart sing, then let's talk.
My goal is to cut out the fake, capture the real and make everyone look great doing it. I want you to want to blow your images up HUGE and put them on your walls so all the world can see how awesome you are together rather that how well you can smile on the count of three!
And if you hate the thought of being photographed, I want you to ponder a few things. What would you give today, to have a few more clear, well lit, detailed photos of your mother as a young woman with small children, or your father smiling down at you with a look of pride and protectiveness? And ask yourself this: five years ago when you hated getting your photo taken because you hated the way you looked; when you look at that time now, how bad did you really look? (Not bad at all, right?) And one last question, does your beaten up tv that you paid off for 5 years interest free that was so shiny and gorgeous when you busted it out of the box make you smile like pictures of your kids during their first few days of life?
This is what photography means to me. More than new toys, more than my insecurities. At the end of the day (or decade), more than just about anything except for being with the people in the images. And when you can't be with the people in those images, then the images are indeed pretty much everything. Together we can grab memories that will bring a smile to your lips and maybe a tear to your eye for as long as you can see and smile.
Give me a call, let's set something up!
